NEWS RELEASE
January 26, 2016 – Students from the Tide For Tusks organization will present an original art print to Feld Entertainment and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey in recognition of their support for cancer research and care for children.
More than 16,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States and recent groundbreaking research on elephants may lead toward new treatments. A team of doctors and scientists are studying why there is such a low incidence of cancer in elephants and will use what has been learned to see how this may correlate to new treatments for pediatric cancer.
“At Ringling Bros., we’re all about entertaining families and giving back to the communities where we perform. In addition to the financial contributions made by Feld Entertainment and Ringling Bro. Children’s Fund, we are bringing our performers directly to the hospitals to entertain families who aren’t able to make it to the show,” said Alana Feld, Executive Vice President of Feld Entertainment and Producer of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.
In recognition of the Feld Family forming the Ringling Bros. Children’s Fund, students from the UA Tide For Tusks will present a print from the elephant series commissioned for an upcoming book on Friday, January 29, at 5:30 pm at the BJCC in Birmingham.
Tide For Tusks is a University of Alabama student led initiative to raise awareness for poaching of African elephants and promote a deeper understanding of the trafficking of endangered wildlife. We believe that with the conscientious support of UA students, faculty, staff and administrators – who deeply believe in protecting a keystone species like the African elephant – that we can become a part of the solution to save a wildlife icon for future generations. www.tidefortusks.org
